Spaying and Neutering Guide from your Carol Stream Veterinarian

Spay and Neuter Services From Our Carol Stream Vet

At Carol Stream Animal Hospital, spay and neuter procedures are one of the many services offered by our experienced Carol Stream Vet, alongside pet dental care and other preventative care. If your pet has not yet been spayed or neutered, we strongly recommend that you have this done as soon as possible so as to protect your pet's health, improve overall temperament, and do your part to control the pet population. spay and neuter services from your veterinarian in carol stream

What to Expect From a Spay and Neuter Procedure

The proper time to have your pet spayed or neutered will vary depending on the type of pet and his or her age/size. For puppies and kittens, for example, it may be necessary to wait until your pet reaches a certain weight. For kittens, this weight is typically around two pounds. If you have an adult pet that has not been spayed or neutered, there is no need to wait any longer.

Spay and neutering procedures are very routine, and we perform them in our office daily. Your pet will be placed under anesthesia and carefully monitored to ensure maximum comfort and safety. The procedure itself typically takes just a few minutes. Once the spay or neuter is completed, we will use sutures to close the incision and then carefully monitor your pet as he or she comes out of anesthesia. Most pets are able to return home within just a few hours of the surgery.

Once your pet is back at home, simply keep an eye on him or her to make sure there is no chewing or scratching around the incision. Most pets will be back to their "normal selves" within a day or two after the procedure. In the meantime, it is not unusual for your pet to be a little lethargic.
